You don't need a prescription to buy any test strips but you do need a prescription for insurance to pay for them.  I tried the Relion meter and didn't like it very much.  i started using the Bayer Contour Next meter a couple of years ago and it has been quite accurate and consistent.  It has about the cheapest cost for strips on Amazon but not as cheap as the Relion strips.
Type 2 since 1993.  Control with LCHF diet.

With my rx coverage I get 400 strips for $2 (3 month supply). Or however many the dr writes the rx for. That's why I want the rx.  :)

T-2 dx 2/2012 FBG 243 A1c 9.5%   A1c 6/2012  5.7%.  A1c 4% club 7/2013 to 12/2016.
12-2016 5.1%.   6/18 5.3%.   6/19  5.7%.  6/20 5.7%.  7/21 5.2%.  8/22 5.5%.  7/23 6%.
Off meds 3/2015, diet controlled.  Minimal exercise.
